We offer
several soccer programs throughout all four seasons of the year – spring,
summer, winter, and fall.
MIKE WILSON:
Headfirst Basketball Director
Mike brings over 14 years of professional and collegiate basketball experience
to the Headfirst Team. He is a 10-year veteran of the Harlem Globetrotters.
In 2000 he set the "Guinness World Record" for the highest slam-dunk
on a 12-foot goal.
Mike has traveled the country and the world as a Harlem Globetrotter
Advance Ambassador. He was one of the only Globetrotters designated to motivational
speaking, making public and commercial appearances, and radio and television
interviews. He's even performed ball-handling tricks with Katie Couric on
the Today Show. Over the past 10 years he's not only played and performed,
but
instructed thousands of kids enrolled in Globetrotter basketball skills camps
all over the world
Mike majored in education at the University of Memphis,
where he played under Coach Larry Finch where he was a starting guard on
the 1995 Tiger team that
made it to the NCAA Sweet 16.
FALL,
WINTER, AND SPRING SKILLS & GAMES DEVELOPMENTAL LEAGUE PROGRAM
The focus of these programs will be to teach the introductory fundamentals
of the game of basketball. The important techniques of dribbling, shooting,
basic team offense & defense, and rebounding will all be taught and addressed
throughout the program. Above all (and throughout the program), Headfirst will
continually teach and communicate to the young basketball players the importance
of teamwork and working together to accomplish goals, both on and off the court.
The schedule of each session will include a teaching period, followed by a
game –like scrimmage. Score will be kept and the rules of basketball
will be accounted for and refereed.
All abilities are welcome for both boys
and girls in this program.

AFTER
SCHOOL PROGRAMS
Headfirst Basketball After School Programs combine fundamental skills instruction
with organized team competition with the goal of providing an enjoyable and
educational after school activity. Throughout the sessions we will focus upon
improving player's individual and team player skills such as passing, dribbling,
shooting, rebounding, and defending. Boys and girls of all skill levels are
encouraged to participate. Each session will end with a life-skills short talk.
Also in each session, Mike Wilson will teach his lesson and or Harlem Globetrotter
trick of the day.
The clinics are specifically designed for active children
ages 4-10. With the recent decline of physical education in schools, children
are usually left
restless and often times turn to video games and television for entertainment.
The Headfirst After School clinics will provide kids with a fun, structured
introduction to physical fitness and athletic development that will get them
excited about playing games and exercising. Life skill lessons will also
be taught and introduced.
Our Clinics are designed for athletes of all ages
and abilities. Groups are separated by age, grade level and ability. Beginner,
Intermediate and Advanced/Select
athletes are encouraged to join us for this after school program

SUMMER,
SPRING BREAK & WINTER HOLIDAY BASKETBALL CAMP
Having fun through a positive teaching and learning environment, Headfirst
Basketball Camp will emphasize individual skills, basic fundamentals and team
play in a positive coaching environment. Fundamentals will include shooting,
passing, dribbling, rebounding and defensive techniques as well as special
insight into the lost art of modern basketball: the backdoor pass! Skills will
be taught and practiced everyday with a specific focus on one main fundamental
each day (i.e., shooting).
Campers will be divided into smaller groups for
stations to provide an intimate learning environment and specific, individual
teaching. Organized team play
and skills competition will allow campers to practice fundamentals in a fun
and competitive environment. Fundamentals, stations, skills competitions
and games will be taught, coached and refereed by an extremely qualified staff
of Headfirst coaches. Campers will be exposed to a wide variety of skills
and
fundamentals in a fun and positive environment to learn basketball the right
way: the Headfirst way!
Our Sports Camps are designed for athletes of all
ages and abilities. Groups are separated by age, grade level and ability.
Beginner, Intermediate and
Advanced/Select athletes are encouraged to join us at camp.
